BANKSY

Proving once again that a Banksy auction is no small thing, the highly anticipated sale of Crude Oil (Vettriano) fetched £4.3 million at Sotheby's modern & contemporary auction earlier this week.

The artwork, which came from blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus' private collection, takes inspiration from The Singing Butler (1992) by the late Scottish artist Jack Vettriano. Crude Oil (Vettriano) was first exhibited in London (2005) at Banksy's ground-breaking exhibition, Crude Oils.

Two of Banksy’s top five auction records are from the Crude Oil series, a nod to the impact of his work on the art world stage and a proven investment for collectors worldwide.
