We are delighted to present a stunning new arrival from Tess Chodan, Thou Art Mine. Celebrating the idea of love through a continuing conversation, Chodan uses two exquisite antique tropical birds to express that notion perfectly. These immaculately preserved examples of Georgian taxidermy are attributed to Henry Ward, one of the most celebrated taxidermists of the early 1800s. This artwork features an Indigo Bunting and a Scarlet Tanager.
Antique sustainably sourced Georgian taxidermy and entomology, twisted hazel, glass and brass
53 x 70 x 26 cm
Chodan went to great lengths to source a very large Victorian glass dome from the late 1800s. It houses wild twisted hazel, brass wire and a collection of antique and sustainably-sourced entomology specimens, which provide a bower for the lovebirds.
These works are inspired by the fleeting lives of the natural world. Drawing on the tradition of collecting, they reflect on memory, preservation, fragility and time. The artist is passionate about connecting her audience with the extraordinary beauty of these ephemeral creatures, in turn leading to a continuing conversation about ecological preservation.
