“Cornwall is at the end of the line, remote, rugged and embodied with an ancient primal majesty. Living in such an impressionable environment evokes plenty of inspiration on a daily basis; I am drawn to raw power of the natural environment and the sublime effect of light. I try to harness the impulsive energy of my subject matter and create order out of chaos, like the landscape I inhabit.”

“I have been drawn to move beyond conveying external memories and feelings gained from human observation in my work process, to reach deeper into my own psyche – attempt to erase the line between the conscious and subconscious, allowing the canvas to become the tangible manifestation of my inner psyche. My plan right now is to have no plan.”

Tove Mauritzson
Tove Mauritzson’s paintings long to persuade viewers that what is being depicted is in fact, the true story.  The well-known landscape scenes and renderings of faithful dogs have been juxtaposed with modern life and common objects found in the everyday life of the artist. Mauritzson’s works seem to have sprung out of a well-loved album; images, memories and dreams collectively creating an alternate world and story, combining the dreamlike and the worldly into one final image.
