David Shrigley is a Scottish artist and illustrator who came to prominence through his drawings, publications and sculptural works. Shrigley has branded himself as an outsider in the art world, and is known for his flat compositions that take on the bizarre and inconsequential elements of everyday life.
Shrigley’s work has been exhibited all over the world, including the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Shrigley’s solo show ‘David Shrigley: Brain Activity’ at the Hayward Gallery in London was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize in 2013.
Shrigley has recently expanded his practice to filmmaking, directing the video for indie-king Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s song ‘Agnes, Queen of Sorrow’ and co-directing an animated film with award-winning director Chris Shepherd based on Shrigley’s book “Who Am I And What I Want”.
