Growing up in the Georgian city of Bath, Jack Davis has been dedicated to his art practice since an early age and in 2009, compelled by the light and artistic heritage, he made the move to Cornwall. Davis has since established a distinctive visual language, combining a variety of marks, textures and layers to create an immersive and expressive response to the Cornish coastline.
In 2016, Davis became a tutor at the Newlyn School of Art, joining an impressive roster of practicing artists in Cornwall. In addition to being housed in both private and corporate collections worldwide, his work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally; Scope Art Fair Miami, PROTECHT in association with Whitechapel Gallery, The Threadneedle Prize: ‘Figurative Art Today’, and published in ‘Future Now: 100 Contemporary Artists’ from the Aesthetica Art Prize.
“Cornwall is at the end of the line, remote, rugged and embodied with an ancient primal majesty. Living in such an impressionable environment evokes plenty of inspiration on a daily basis; I am drawn to raw power of the natural environment and the sublime effect of light. I try to harness the impulsive energy of my subject matter and create order out of chaos like the landscape I inhabit.” Jack Davis
