After completing his studies in Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins (where he later lectured), Charming Baker began producing artworks for a number of high profile events and personalities. These include War Child (co-chaired by Angelina Jolie and Stella McCartney), Rolls Royce, and Paul Smith who installed Baker as the global ambassador for Paul Smith London.
Baker’s work often represents a strong narrative and demonstrates an acute understanding of technical fine art processes, using both traditional and contemporary approaches: he has gained a reputation for shooting some of his paintings with a shotgun – to add something, rather than take it away, it breaks the formula and livens up the image. His works are always multi-layered; if they say just one thing, they will not leave the studio. The resulting works are an interesting and often tactile representation of well trodden and intrinsically linked themes; love, death, life, joy and fear.
